| | A self-taught jewellery craftsman, Gilles Maurel uses contemporary techniques to create his works. Since 1975, when he first started working with metal, he has shown various collections featuring both silver and gold. Reticulation and coloured oxidation on silver are significant part of his artistic approach.
| From his studio in St-Sauveur in Laurentians, Maurel creates unique pieces or small series that are sold in various boutiques in Canada, the United States, and Australia. A professional member of the Conseil des Métiers d'Art du Québec, the artist has taken part in numerous exhibitions. The jury at the 1995 Salon des Métiers d'Art honoured him with the Jean-Marie Gauvreau award, bestowed each year in recognition of the balance, mastery, and aesthetic appeal of craftsman's production. |
